In a significant move, ARAM will exhibit at Decorex for the first time, adding an important contemporary presence to the traditional offering at the established Chelsea show.
ARAM is London’s finest contemporary furniture dealer. Established on the Kings Road in 1964, their mission is simple: to bring the very best contemporary design to London from around the world. ARAM was the first to introduce the designs of, among others, Marcel Breuer, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Castiglioni, Kuramata and Jasper Morrison to the UK and the company carries on this tradition today in its product ranges and through the unique gallery for experimental and new design housed in its London headquarters – a beautiful 20,000 sq ft space in the heart of Covent Garden. ARAM’s range is unrivalled and includes flagship displays from Cassina, Living Divani, Fritz Hansen, Knoll, Arketipo and Vitra as well as the complete range of Eileen Gray’s designs, for which the company hold the worldwide license.
ARAM’s selection for Decorex includes products from Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Knoll, Eileen Gray and will include the new Lounge chair by Jehs+Laub for Knoll.
CASSINA
Established in 1927, Cassina specialises in contemporary design with a focus on upholstered furniture, wood and leather as well as working with other precious materials. Cassina combines industrial technology with artisan manufacturing techniques to produce the highest quality designs by the likes of Le Corbusier, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Frank Lloyd Wright, Charlotte Perriand, Piero Lissoni and Philippe Starck.
POLTRONA FRAU
For nearly 100 years, Poltrona Frau has epitomised elegant, simple, pure Italian design. Poltrona Frau specializes in upholstered furniture for living rooms and bedrooms, and has worked with a wealth of designers including Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Gio Ponti, Andree Putman and Jean Marie Massaud.
KNOLL STUDIO
Since 1938, Knoll has produced some of the most iconic designs of the 20th century, including the Barcelona chair by Mies van der Rohe, the Wassily chair by Marcel Breuer, the Bertoia chair and the Platner chair and table. Each piece from their collection reflects the glamour of the golden age of design.
With the exception of some architectural and design historians and academics, very few people knew of Eileen Gray before ARAM introduced her designs to the world markets in the 1970s. A meeting between Eileen Gray and Zeev Aram at an exhibition of her work in 1973 led to a close friendship and collaboration and Aram now have the worldwide license to produce her designs, including the iconic E1027 table and Bibendum armchair. Her name is now as familiar as the other important early 20th century architects and designers such as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Marcel Breuer et al. In 2009, her Dragon chair – a one-off design for a Paris apartment made circa 1917 – sold at auction for £19 million and became the most expensive piece of furniture ever sold.
ARAM will be exhibiting on stand A32.
